Can regular exercise improve your gut health?
Let me answer that question for you… Yes, ensuring you exercise on a regular and consistent basis, this can drastically help digestion and gut health!
Exercise can help improve a number of gut health issues such as indigestion, constipation, heartburn and many other gastrointestinal distresses such as; bloating, stomach cramps and trapped wind.
One of the best exercises that I recommend to my clients to improve their gut health and symptoms of gastrointestinal distress is the squat, or any variation of the squat.
The squat can essentially act as a pump for the digestive system. This is beneficial if you suffer from constipation, trapped wind and bloating.
If performing a squat seems to be too challenging, I suggest using something to support such as a TRX. This can help to take the load from the legs and spread it across the arms also.
The second form of exercise to help is walking.
I’ve said it many times before in these blogs… increasing your daily steps is advantageous for many reasons!
Walking can help also optimise gut health, aid digestion, decrease indigestion, bloating and other gastrointestinal issues and discomfort. Not to mention it can lower blood pressure and cholesterol, decrease the risk of heart attacks and strokes and also help to decrease body fat percentage, which we know can help us avoid all sorts of nasty diseases.
So before you start using medication such as laxatives, Buscopan and gut-health-promising pre and probiotic supplements, start exercising to improve your digestive system. It will thank you in the long run.
If you feel you’ve tried exercising to improve your gut health and gastrointestinal symptoms, drop me a message and we can start looking into your diet and devising you a plan of action to get to the underlying issues.
Stay healthy people,
